Description

Anoplodactylus batangensis (Helfer, 1938)

Helfer, 1938, 174–176; fig. 6 (as Pycnosoma batangense); Child, 1992, 41–42 (literature)

Material: New Caledonia: 1 male with eggs, 1 subadult male (MNHN­Py 1048), station 1418, Baie de Santal: east of Easo Point, sand and weed on a wharf, 20º46.9'S 167º07.9'E, 1­5 m, November 2000; Lifou workshop.

Remarks: A pantropical­temperate species easily recognized by its tapering proboscis. It is known from shallow depths, from the shore to 40 m, and has been recorded previously from New Caledonia and Tonga (Bamber 2000; Child 1998).
