Strigamia tripora Chamberlin 1941

Description

Strigamia tripora (Chamberlin, 1941) *

References for morphology: Chamberlin 1941.

Taxonomic notes. Described originally as a species of Korynia, it was almost ignored subsequently. It is assigned here to Strigamia for the first time (new combination), because it shares all major diagnostic features of Strigamia. However, it could be a junior synonym of S. kerrana, because the original descriptions of both species are fully consistent, the difference in the number of pairs of legs (39 in a female S. tripora, 45 in a female S. kerrana) being possibly due to interindividual variation, and the difference in the number of coxal pores (3 on each side in a 15 mm long S. tripora, 4 in a 20 mm long S. kerrana) being possibly due to changes with growth or individual variation.

Distribution: known from a single locality in the Sierra Nevada, California.
