Phenacoccus pumilus Kiritshenko, 1931: 314. Phenacoccus latus Kiritshenko, 1936: 132.
DIAGNOSIS. Body of female broadly oval. Antennae normally 9 segmented. Legs well developed, with a claw denticle and without translucent pores on hind legs. Cerarii numbering 10–18 pairs. Anal lobe cerarii with 2 enlarged lanceolate setae, plus 1 small seta and 6–8 trilocular pores. Anterior cerarii each with 2 lanceolate setae and 1 or 2 trilocular pores, except ocular pair with 3–5 setae; some cerarii on thorax and abdominal segments with only 1 seta and 1 trilocular pore. Posterior ostioles well developed. Circulus absent. Dorsal multilocular disc pores present across posterior edges of abdominal segments IV–VII, and laterally on segments II and III; also on venter, across posterior edges of abdominal segments II–VI, and anterior and posterior edges of segment VII, and posterior to vulva. Quinquelocular pores absent. Trilocular pores evenly dispersed. Discoidal pores minute, scattered. Dorsal oral collar ducts of 1 size, present across head, thorax and abdominal segments; also on venter, where of 2 sizes: large type as on dorsum, scattered on thorax and margins of abdominal segments, and a small type present medially on posterior abdominal segments.
DISTRIBUTION. Palaearctic: Armenia, Bulgaria, Caucasus, China, France, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. In Iran, P. p u m i l u s occurs in Bushehr, Markazi and Yazd. P. pumilus is known from 21 plant families worldwide (Ben-Dov et al., 2012).

Markazi: Arak, Mohajeran, 15.vi. 2010, 1928 m., 5 adult Ƥ, on Lepidium latifolium (Brassicaceae) (M. Alikhani); Arak, Park -e Azadi, 2 adult Ƥ, on Erodium neuradifolium (Geraniaceae), 5 adult Ƥ, on Descuriana sophia (Brassicaceae), 5.vii.2010 (M. Alikhani); Arak, Toureh, 4 adult Ƥ, on Centaurea virgata (Asteraceae), 26.viii. 2010, 1850 m. (M. Alikhani); Arak, Shazand, Suraneh, 5 adult Ƥ, on Salvia bracteata (Lamiaceae), 6.iv.2009 (M. Alikhani). Sistan & Balouchestan: Kash, 6 adult Ƥ, on root of Alhagi cameorum, 21.iv.2012. Ya z d: Tabas, Khoravan -e Oliya, 2 adult Ƥ, unknown plant, 18.iv. 2010, 1678 m.
COMMENTS. P. pumilus is recorded here for the first time in Iran where it was found on the roots of its host plants. No economic damage was reported and this species is probably widespread in Iran.
