Yönetim Kurulunda Kadın Üye Varlığının Şirket Performansına Etkisi

Bu çalışmada, yönetim kurullarında kadın üye varlığının şirketin muhasebe ve piyasa bazlı performansına olan etkisi araştırılmıştır. Bu amaca yönelik olarak Borsa İstanbul’da BIST 100 endeksinde yer alan şirketlerden finansal kurumlar, gayrimenkul yatırım ortaklıkları ve holdingler dışındaki 66 şirketin 2007 ilâ 2020 yılları arasındaki verileri kullanılmıştır. Muhasebe bazlı performans ölçütü olarak aktif kârlılığı ve piyasa bazlı performans ölçütü olarak da Tobin Q oranı kullanılmış olup, analizler panel veri regresyon yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, şirketlerin yönetim kurulunda kadın üye bulunmasının muhasebe bazlı şirket performansına olumlu etkisi olmasına karşın, aynı etkinin piyasa bazlı performansta görülmediği, diğer bir ifadeyle yönetim kurullarında kadın üye varlığının piyasa tarafından fiyatlanmadığı sonucuna varılmıştır.

The Effect of the Presence of Female Members in The Board of Directors on Company Performance

In this study, the effect of the presence of female members in the board of directors on the accounting and market based performance of the company was investigated. For this purpose, data from 66 companies from the listed companies under BIST 100 index of Borsa Istanbul between 2007 and 2020 were used excluding financial institutions, real estate investment trusts and holdings. Return on assets was used as an accounting-based performance measure and Tobin Q ratio was used as a market-based performance measure, and the analyses were carried out using panel data regression method. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that although the presence of female members in the board of directors of companies has a positive effect on the accounting-based company performance, the same effect is not seen in the market-based performance. In other words, accounting-based company performance resulted by the presence of female members in the boards of directors is not priced by the market.
