Acanthurus guttatus Forster in Bloch & Schneider 1801 —White-spotted surgeonfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed on the north coast of Kavieng District, 2–24 m depth, St. T 7, on 1 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen; also observed at Nemto Island, New Hanover, 4–15 m depth, St. T 23, on 7 Nov. 2006.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Mascarenes, Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Hawaiian Islands, Marquesas Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia, Australia and Rapa. Found in the surge zone of exposed rocky shores, 0–4 m depth. Marine.
