Description

Ptereleotris evides (Jordan & Hubbs 1925)—Twotone dartfish

Status at New Ireland. First recorded West Harbour, New Hanover by Kailola (1975: 224); reported from Nusalomon Island, Kavieng by Randall & Hoese (1985: 13). KFRS and USNM material. Specimens photographed in Kavieng region on 2–3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey, and at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 11 June 2009.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Line and Pitcairn islands, north to southern Japan, south to New South Wales (Australia). Found in burrows on coral rubble bottom on the barrier reef slope, 2–15 m depth. Marine.
