Leptoscarus vaigiensis
Description
Leptoscarus vaigiensis (Quoy & Gaimard 1824) —Seagrass parrotfish
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 7 and 21 June 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Pitcairn, south to Western Australia, Kermadec Islands and Rapa. Found in sheltered areas and lagoons, in seagrass areas or areas with hard substrates with thick algal cover adjacent to coral reefs, 1–15 m depth. Marine.
