Acanthochromis polyacanthus
Description
Acanthochromis polyacanthus (Bleeker 1855) —Spiny chromis
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed in Kavieng Lagoon in June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 17); a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, 3–25 m depth, St. KR 90, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Indonesia east to Philippines and Vanuatu, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in inshore and seaward coral reefs, 1–65 m depth. Marine.
