Abudefduf vaigiensis
Description
Abudefduf vaigiensis (Quoy & Gaimard 1825) —Indo-Pacific sergeant
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 3–4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, 3– 25 m depth, St. KR 90, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), and northern New Zealand. Found on inshore rocky reefs and lagoons and outer reef slopes, 0–15 m depth. Marine.
