Description
Mesopristes argenteus (Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829) —Silver grunter
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Philippines and New Guinea, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in inshore areas, usually near mangroves; juveniles entering freshwater rivers and streams, 0–4 m depth. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
