Description
Lethrinus ornatus Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1830 —Ornate emperor
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Drei Inseln Harbour, New Hanover by Munro (1958: 203). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 7 and 28 June 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland (Australia). Solitary or in groups, in seagrass areas and on sand or rubble bottoms adjacent to coral reefs, 5–30 m depth. Marine.
