Sphaeramia orbicularis (Cuvier [ex Kuhl & Hasselt] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1828)—Orbicular
cardinalfishStatus at New Ireland. First recorded from St. Mathias as Apogon orbicularis by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 58), based on ZMH 11967.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 4.—General distribution: Southern Red Sea and East Africa east to Caroline Islands and Tonga, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to New Caledonia. Lives in aggregations in mangrove habitats, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
