Myripristis hexagona

Description

Myripristis hexagona (Lacepède 1802) —Doubletooth soldierfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Steffen Strait, western Kavieng District at 3–18 m depth, St. KR68, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Samoa and Tonga, north to Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in sheltered areas of offshore reefs, 3–40 m depth. Marine.
