Nebrius ferrugineus

Description

Nebrius ferrugineus (Lesson 1831) — Tawny nurse shark

Status at New Ireland. Originally described from Port Praslin, New Ireland as Scyllium ferrugineum by Lesson (1831: 95), reported as Ginglymostoma mülleri by Günther (1910: 487–488). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dean Tully.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 3.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Philippines and Papua New Guinea, north to Taiwan, south to to northern Australia. Coral or coral reefs, seagrass beds, or sand-rubble flats, 2–70 m depth. Marine.
