Description
This database includes the raw data linked with the paper “Rehabilitation services lockdown during the COVID-19 emergency: the mental health response of caregivers of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities” published on Disability and Rehabilitation, doi: 10.1080/09638288.2020.1842520. In this paper, we report on cross-sectional data on the impact of sources of stress during the early months of the COVID-19 emergency and lockdown on the psychological wellbeing of caregivers of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Procedures
The COVID-19 response has been assessed through an ad-hoc questionnaire on six different dimensions: COVID-exposure, COVID-worries, COVID-management, COVID- information, Concerns for the child, and No communication with therapists. Symptoms of anxiety were assessed with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI-Y (Spielberger, 1983). Symptoms of depression were assessed with the Beck Depression Inventory, BDI-II (Beck, Steer, & Carbin, 1988). Parenting Stress was assessed with the Parenting Stress Index short-form (Abidin, 1983).
Worries about COVID-19 contagion and concerns for the child left without rehabilitation pro- grams were the greatest sources of mental health burden for caregivers. Nonetheless, only the concerns for the child were significantly associated with caregivers’ reports of stress, depressive and anxious symptoms.
