The Mystery of Magnetic Binaries: Questions, Concerns and Possibilities
Creators
Description
Astronomy has become, albeit by necessity, very specialized. Within the stellar variability community, people specialize by variability type, or by observational type, and thus collaborations form to allow for complex studies. One particular area, which is largely unavoidable in such complex studies is binarity, considering the sheer fraction of stars in binaries. Interestingly, magnetism is one area where this seemingly isn't true. So few binaries possess a magnetic component that many people ignore them. In this talk we will review these magnetic binaries and their importance. We will probe some of the unanswered questions, and we will also discuss how useful binarity can be to understanding magnetic interaction.
