Nach BARBIER (2004) ist die Art für die Azoren (ohne genauere Ortsangabe) nachgewiesen. Auch BORGES et al. (2005) machen keine näheren Angaben, so dass nicht ersichtlich ist, ob eigene Funde vorgelegen haben. Andere Zitate konnten hier nicht ermittelt werden. Hinzu kommt, dass der Artstatus von P. rugifer von verschiedenen Autoren unterschiedlich beurteilt wird. Während DOLLFUSS (1995) in seiner Revision die Taxa P. wesmaeli (A. MORAWITZ 1864) und P. mortifer VALKEILA 1972 mit P. rugifer synonymisiert, betrachtet VAN DER SMISSEN (2004) diese als eigenständige Arten. Es ist wohl davon auszugehen, dass hier P. rugifer sensu DOLLFUSS (1995) gemeint ist. Eine Klärung ist nur durch Untersuchung von Belegen möglich.
