Description

FIGURE 2. Phylogenetic relationships among the major clades of Liolaemus lizards, detailing relationships within the lineomaculatus section, as currently understood (black text) and proposed by Pincheira-Donoso and Núñez (2005; red text). Relationships are those recovered by Espinoza et al. (2004) using morphological and molecular data. Major clade names follow Etheridge (1995) and Schulte et al. (2000). As defined by P-D&N, (1) their subgenus Vilcunia is paraphyletic and nested within Eulaemus; (2) their subgenus Liolaemus is polyphyletic with respect to some members of the lineomaculatus section of the subgenus Eulaemus; and (3) their subgenus Donosolaemus, albeit monophyletic, is nested within the subgenus Eulaemus. See text for details and Fig. 1 for additional comments.
