Description
FIGURE 3. Anatomical comparisons among Akodon oenos, A. spegazzinii, and A. neocenus involving the interorbital region (left column) and the rostrum in lateral view (right column): a. CNP 2352 (A. oenos, topotype; La Pega, Mendoza); b. CNP 1491 (A. spegazzinii, Carapunco, Tucumán); c. and d. CNP 2349 and CNP 2346, respectively (A. neocenus, topotypes; Neuquén, Neuquén). The arrows highlight the constriction anterior point and the wide interorbit with divergent frontals (fs) that characterize A. neocenus; a short upper free border (fu) and a more orthodont tendency (note the inclination of the black line with respect to the molar plane) contribute to separate A. oenos and A. spegazzinii from A. neocenus and the remainder members of the Akodon varius group.
