Distribution: Northwestern U.S. and southwestern Canada; native to Europe.

Specimens examined (North America only): Thirty-one from six collection events; questionable female identifications: 16 from six collection events.

Flight period: April through July.

Remarks: Microctonus melanopus is of European origin and is expanding its range in North America (Fox et al. 2004).
