Description

Rhigopsidius piercei Heller, 1906

Rhigopsidius tucumanus Sasscer and Pierce, 1913: 143 (misidentification, non Heller, 1906).

Rhigopsidius piercei Heller, 1936: 285 (replacement name for R. tucumanus Sasscer and Pierce, 1913) (type locality: Argentina: Jujuy, Huacalera; type material: N: MLP); Emden, 1952: 744 (= R. tucumanus); Kuschel, 1989: 30 (reinstated as a distinct species).

Immature stages. Larva (Loiácono and Morrone, 1991; Marvaldi, 1998) and pupa (Loiácono and Morrone, 1991).

Host plants. Solanum tuberosum L. (Solanaceae) (Morrone and Loiácono, 1992).

Distribution. Bolivia, Peru, and northwestern and southern Argentina (Morrone and Loiácono, 1992; Posadas, 1998).
