(A) a blow-fly, possibly Calliphora vomitoria (L.) or C. vicina Robineau-Desvoidy, and an entire wing, apparently of a Calliphora species; (B) the larva and pupa of a mosquito, identified as either Culex pipiens L. or C. torrentium Martini. [Also shown are Hooke's drawings of the "marine apiaries" illustrated in Piso's Historia naturalis Brasiliae (1648).].
