Description
45. Arixyleborus rugosipes Hopkins
Arixyleborus rugosipes Hopkins, 1915: 59.
Thai distribution: (unspecified southern province) (Sittichaya et al. 2012); C: Chanthaburi, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Petchaburi; S: Chumphon, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Phangnga, Surat Thani, Trang (Beaver 1999 as Arixyleborus medius (Eggers)).
New records: More than 3,000 specimens have been collected in central and southern regions of the country, primarily in Khao Luang NP in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, but the species is apparently absent from the northern and northeastern regions.
Other distribution: India and Sri Lanka through Southeast Asia to Indonesia West of Wallace’s line, the Philippines and Taiwan. Imported to Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, but not known to be established there. (4)
Biology: Polyphagous. Browne (1961a) suggests a possible preference for Dipterocarpaceae, but this may simply reflect the abundance of this family in the forests of the region. Browne (1961a) describes the condition of attacked host material, the gallery system and development of the species.
Illustrations: P (Nobuchi 1978).
