Description
(Figs 14, 15, 29, 35)
Stigmatophora chekiangensis Daniel, 1951, Bonner zoologische Beiträge, 2 (3–4): 298 (Type locality: [China, Zhejiang] “ Chekiang: West-Tien-Mu-Shan, 1600 m ”).
Type material examined. Holotype (Figs 14, 29): male, “West Tien-mu-shan, Prov. Chekiang, 25.VII.1932, H. Höne ” / “Typus ♂ ” / “ ♂ Type Stigmatophora chekiangi Daniel ”, gen. prep. No.: AV1866 (prepared by Volynkin) (ZFMK). Paratype: female, “ West Tien-mu-shan, Prov. Chekiang [Zhejiang], 23.VII.1932, H. Höne ” / “ ♀ Typus” / “ ♀ Type Stigmatophora chekiangi Daniel ”, gen. prep. No.: AV1867 (prepared by Volynkin) (ZFMK).
Additional material examined. CHINA: 8 males, West Tien-mu-shan, Prov. Chekiang [Zhejiang], [leg.] H. Höne, 22.VII.[19]32, 26.VII.[19]32, 27.VII.[19]32, 29.VII.[19]32, 30.VII.[19]32 (all specimens are wrongly labeled as paratypes) (ZFMK); 3 males, 2 females, the same locality and collector, 10.VII.[19]32, 22.VII.[19]32, 24.VII.[19]32 and 25.VII.[19]32 (all specimens are wrongly labeled as paratypes) (MWM / ZSM); 4 males, Guangdong, Shaoguan, Nanling, 22–27.VII.2008, Y. Kishida leg. (SZMN); 1 male, 1 female, the same locality, 1000–1400 m, 9–15.VII.2010, Y. Kishida leg. (SZMN).
Remark. In the original description, Daniel (1951) cited only the holotype male and the allotype female and did not mention other specimens. Thus, the specimens housed in ZFMK and MWM/ZSM and labeled as ‘paratypes’ are not paratypes in fact.
Diagnosis. The forewing length is 15–16 mm in both sexes. Stigmatophora chekiangensis is most similar externally to the dark form of S. karenkonis but differs from it by the somewhat paler ground colour of both wings which is additionally lightened around the blackish pattern elements (whereas the ground colour of S. karenkonis is monotonous). The male genital capsule of S. chekiangensis is reminiscent of those of S. danieli and S. inanis due to the presence of a triangular process of the clasper directed ventrally but differs by the narrower valva with the distal section markedly curved dorsad (it is wider and less curved in S. danieli and S. inanis), the reduced ampulla (it is well developed in S. danieli and S. inanis) and the very short, triangular distal saccular process (whereas it is strongly elongate and distally tapered in S. danieli and S. inanis). The female genitalia of S. chekiangensis are similar to those of S. danieli but differ by the anteriorly narrower ductus bursae and the conspicuously smaller and evenly scobinated corpus bursae (it lacks scobination posteriorly in S. danieli).
Distribution. The species is known from Southeast China (Zhejiang, Anhui, Guangdong and Guangxi) (Daniel 1951; Fang 2000; Kishida 2011; Dubatolov et al. 2012; Wu & Kishida 2018).
