Description
Hyperaspis regularis Erichson, 1847:183; Mulsant, 1853:292.
Hinda regularis: Weise, 1899:269; 1902:174; Korschefsky, 1931:177; Blackwelder, 1945:446; Almeida & Milléo, 2000:72, 78–79.
Distribution: Peru.
Type material: Almeida and Milléo (2000) incorrectly designated a ZMNB specimen of Hinda regularis as lectotype because it had the same characteristics described by Erichson. Drs. Manfred Uhlig and Bernd Jaeger (ZMHB) discovered this error; the appropriate specimen in the ZMHB bears a lectotype label attached by Gordon in 1971, but that designation was not published. We here designate the following specimen as lectotype: a male, with genitalia in glycerin vial, with the following labels: white [4441], green [regularis Er., Peru Tsch.], white [LECTOTYPE, Hyperaspis regularis Erichson Gordon 1971], green [Hist.-Coll (Coleoptera) Nr. 4441, Hyperaspis regularis Er., Peru, v. Tschudi, Zoo. Mus. Berlin], red [HOLOTYPUS, Hyperaspis regularis Erichson, 1847, labeled by ZMHB 2003].
Erichson (1847) gave no indication how many specimens he had when describing this species. Therefore we consider a lectotype designation necessary in spite of the “ HOLOTYPUS ” label.
