FIGURE8. Metanotal gland and super-anal plate of P. planidorsalis. A. metanotal gland; B. supra-anal plate.
Description.Male: Head wider than the anterior of pronotum. Occiput narrowed and flattened. Vertex slightly inclined, armed with central groove and densely pubescent. Frontal rostrum extremely convex, inclined dorsally and ventrally; extremely narrowed dorsally, almost as wide as antennal scape. Antennal scape shield-like. Ocelli inconspicuous, transversely ovoid. Eye ovoid, about 1/3 length of head. Postclypeus flattened; anteclypeus concave. Labrum convex and shaped as triangular. End section of maxillary palpi slightly narrower than the third; labial palpi short and the end section shaped as knife.
Pronotum trapezoid, anterior margin straight, posterior margin rounded and convex, posterior margin wider than the anterior. Pronotal disc broad. Metanotal gland densely pubescent; short setae distributed along proximal margin; distally armed with upward protrude centrally. Anterior margin of metanotal gland straight; lateral margin medially concave; posterior margin arc-shaped and convex (Fig. 8).
Oblique veins six, last one proximally linked to the basal of diagonal vein by a transverse vein. Chord veins three, two external ones joined proximally and linked to diagonal vein and then converging with CuA vein, the third chord vein linking with mirror by two transverse veins. Mirror large, oval-like; dividing vein straight. Apical field shaped as triangular, about 1/3 length of tegmina, armed with irregular wing chambers. Hindwings slightly longer than the tegmina, and uncovered portion about 1/2 length of hind femur.
Inner tympanum slit-like and the outer tympanum quadrate. Hind tibiae bearing spines proximally and spurs distally (numbered 5:4). Supra-anal plate symmetrically divided each side as triangular and apically pubescent.
Genitalia. Lateral lobes of epiphallus band-shaped, apically bifurcated as right angle, both branches apically acute; upper branch about two times longer than the lower. Ectoparamere forked into three parts, one branch forward and head pointed; other two branches curved and band-shaped with acute apex, and included angles between each two of branches varied in individuals.
FIGURE9. Genitalia of P. planidorsalis. A. dorsal view; B. lateral view; C. ventral view; D. inside of male genitalia, lateral view; E. inside of male genitalia, apically enlarged view.
Coloration. Body colored yellowish green. Eyes brown; clypeus and labrum yellowish. Pronotum yellowish green, a pair of eyelike spots of pronotum disc dark brown. Tegmina green, mirror and oblique veins brown.
Female unknown.
Remarks. Coloration of this species varied from light to dark. The specimens we describe here are colored yellowish and those specimens in dark color possessing similar type of pattern. P. planidorsalis was established by Gorochov (1988) and type locality is Vietnam. This species was first described by Yin & Liu (1995) in Hainan, China. Then, Sun & Liu (1995) proposed three species, P. fumingi, P. hainanensis and P. transversa, based on characters of supra-anal plate and ectoparamere. We examined specimens and determined that these differences represent intraspecific variation, espeically, the movable ectoparamere always presenting various appearance in specimens. Therefore, we consider that P. fumingi, P. hainanensis and P. transversa are junior synonyms of P. planidorsalis.
