Description

Anomalophylla Reitter, 1887

Anomalophylla Reitter, 1887: 231; Reitter 1896: 180.

Type species. Anomalophylla tristicula Reitter, 1887 (by monotypy).

Junior synonym: Melaserica Brenske, 1897: 355; type species Melaserica thibetana Brenske, 1897, by subsequent designation (Ahrens 2004); synonymized by Dalla Torre 1912: 36.

Junior synonym: Xorema Reitter, 1902: 147; type species Anomalophylla thibetana Reitter, 1902, by subsequent designation (Ahrens 2004); synonymized by Nikolaev 1982: 285.

Diagnosis. Antenna with 10 antennomeres, antennal club in male with five antennomeres, in female with three antennomeres. Base of the pronotum with a fine marginal line. Lateral margin of protibia bidentate. Anterior angles of labroclypeus strongly rounded. Dorsal surface sparsely minutely setose or with dense, erect setae. The monophyly of Anomalophylla is supported by a number of apomorphies (Ahrens accepted): (1) basal tooth of interior protarsal claw widened in comparison to that of external protarsal claw; (2) tegument of abdominal sternites (60x magnification) with fine mesh pattern formed by microtrichomes; (3) median longitudinal impression on last and penultimate abdominal sternite present; and (4) phallobase laterally at left side (at least) weakly produced. Anomalophylla differs from the similar Omaloplia by the antennal club with four antennomeres in male and by glabrous parameres; it may be distinguished from similar species of Microserica by the abovementioned apomorphies as well as by the dull pygidium of female.
