Description

Lauridromia dehaani (Rathbun, 1923)

Lauridromia dehaani.— McLay 1993: 145.— Ng et al. 2000: 160, fig. 2c.— Ng et al. 2001: 6.

Material. 2 males, 50.8 x 46.9 mm, 50.8 x 47.8 mm, Balicasag Island, Panglao, Bohol, Visayas, Philippines, in tangle nets, 200–300 m, coll. local shell fishermen, Jul 2003, ZRC.

Remarks. Lauridromia dehaani and L. intermedia are two large species and the following characters can be usefully employed to separate them: in L. dehaani the carapace width is distinctly greater than the length (approximately as wide as long in L. intermedia), there are 16 to 20 tiny spines along the inner margins of the dactyli of the first two pairs of walking legs (versus 5–8 spines), and spines are absent on the outer propodal margins of the last two pairs of legs and on the dactylus of the last leg (versus spines present on outer propodal margins of last two pairs of legs and a spine present on outer margin on dactylus of last leg).

Distribution. Lauridromia dehaani is known from a wide area of the IndoPacific and in the Asian area it is known from China, Japan and Taiwan. The specimens from Balicasag Island are a new record for the Philippines.
