TYPE LOCALITY: “ Germanicus [Germany]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (missing right hind-leg) (MZUF: Box 14): Metopia Mg. / roserii Rnd. argyrocephala Mgn, Germ. [= Germany] / 704 / lectotype Metopia roserii Rnd., ♂, T. Pape det., 1986 / Metopia roserii Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986.
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (missing right mid-leg) (MZUF: Box 14): Metopia Mg. / roserii Rnd. argyrocephala Mgn, Germ. [= Germany] / 704 / Metopia argyrocephala Mg. / paralectotype.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Metopia argyrocephala (Meigen, 1824) (Verves 1986: 97); valid species, as Metopia roserii Rondani, 1859 (Pape 1988: 15, Pape et al. 1995: 11); junior synonym of Metopia argentata Macquart, 1851 (Pape 1996: 98, Povolný & Verves 1997: 257).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 210) described Metopia roserii from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ marem tantum observavi [I observed the male only]”, from material received from C.L.F. von Roser. Pape (1986: 3) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotype (♂). A MZUF female numbered “704” is not included in the type series because of its sex.
