Pseudopaguristes calliopsis

Description

Pseudopaguristes calliopsis (Forest & de Saint Laurent, 1968)

Paguristes calliopsis Forest & de Saint Laurent, 1968: 80, figs. 9, 20, 31, 40, 48.

Material examined. Brazil, São Paulo: 14 ♂, 2 ♀, CCDB 1617, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Sul, 23°32ʹ05ʺS, 045°03ʹ41ʺW, colls. F. Mantelatto & R. Biagi, 01.x.1998; 13 ♂, 2 ♀, CCDB 1616, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Sul, 23°32ʹ05ʺS, 045°03ʹ41ʺW, colls. F. Mantelatto & R. Biagi, 01.xi.1998; 4 ♂, CCDB 554, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Sul, 23°32ʹ05ʺS, 045°03ʹ41ʺW, colls. F. Mantelatto & R. Biagi, 01.xii.1998; 9 ♂, 4 ♀, CCDB 1615, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Sul, 23°32ʹ05ʺS, 045°03ʹ41ʺW, colls. F. Mantelatto & R. Biagi, 01.xii.1998; 2 ♂, CCDB 0768, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Leste, 23°33ʹS, 045°05ʹW, colls. F. Mantelatto & R. Biagi, 01.ix.1999.

Distribution. Western Atlantic— Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) (Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1987; Rieger 1998; Melo 1999; Rahayu 2005; Coelho et al. 2007; Fransozo et al. 2011).

Remarks. Despite the wide distribution in Brazil, Paguristes calliopsis has very few records in collections and publications, and little is known regarding its biology (Biagi et al. 2006). These factors indicate that further investigation on this species is required. In addition, small individuals are frequently misidentified as Paguristes tortugae, which is the phylogenetically closest species in the region (Mantelatto et al. 2006). Sequences accession numbers (GenBank): CCDB 768—16S (DQ369932) (Mantelatto et al. 2006), CCDB 1615—COI (MT785553).
