Figure 3 in Resurrecting Helix straminea, a forgotten escargot with trans-Adriatic distribution: first insights into the genetic variation within the genus Helix (Gastropoda: Pulmonata)

Description

Figure 3. Geometric morphometric (elliptic Fourier) analysis of shell outlines of selected Helix taxa. Each point represents one individual in a principal component analysis based on coefficients derived from ten harmonic functions. The two principal components represent 63.7% of the variation. Variability in shell shape is further illustrated by photographs of H. straminea (E, Italy: Santa Maria a Corte, SMF 341623; H, Macedonia: Žirovnica, SMF 341613), H. vladika (F, Montenegro: valley of Moracˇa, lectotype of H. vladika, SMF 9607; I, Montenegro: Gusinje, SMF 341615), Helix pelagonesica (D, Greece: Kyra Panagia, invalid neotype, SMF 9777; G, Volos, lectotype of H. volensis, SMF 9804), H. schlaeflii (A, Greece: Arta, ZMB 59291), H. cincta (B, Croatia: Pula) and H. lucorum (C, Macedonia: Modricˇ). Point labels indicate country codes (AL, Albania; CZ, Czech Republic; GR, Greece; HR, Croatia; IT, Italy, ME, Montenegro; MK, Macedonia; RS, Serbia; TR, Turkey).
