Cultural Research in the Tanzanian Rift Valley: Memories, methods, motivations, and materials

  • 1. Leiden University Centre for Linguistics

Description

The presentation goes through the research history in the Tanzanian Rift valley discussing the motivations and field work circumstances of the individual researchers through times (1896-now), examining what they have produced and wondering how that has been received by the communities in Tanzania and in the West. The main purpose is to prepare for a discussion about the way forward for the Rift Valley Network. I hope the audience will forgive me for a slight bias towards Iraqw and linguistics.
