Coelichneumon sugiharai Uchida, 1935

Coelichneumon sugiharai Uchida, 1935: 15–16, ♀.

Holotype: ♀ “[red] Type Matsumura; Mt Tebako Shikoku 8 20 1931 Y. Sugihara; Coelichn. sugiharai nov. det. Uchida ” (Sapporo), type studied.

Description: ♀: Body length 15 mm. Flagellum with 34 flagellomeres, lanceolate; 1 st flagellomere 2.4‒2.5× longer than wide, 2 nd flagellomere 1.8× longer than wide, combined length 0.51× eye length; 9 th flagellomere square, widest flagellomeres c.1.9× wider than long. Temple slightly and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.4× ocellar diameter. Frons and face coarsely rugose-punctate. Clypeus densely rugose-punctate, smoothened apically. MI 0.6‒0.8. Gena with scattered and superficial punctures ventrally, laterally 1.0× wider than eye in lateral view.

Mesosoma covered with brownish hairs. Notaulus impressed in frontal 1/3 of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum densely punctate, ± opaque. Mesopleuron and metapleuron with dense punctures; juxtacoxal carina partly present. Scutellum moderately elevated, slightly wider than long, without lateral carina, densely punctate. Propodeum rounded. Areae basalis and superomedia confluent; area superomedia halfmoon-shaped, c. 1.5× wider than long; anterior transversal carina weak, behind the middle. Area externa densely punctate. Area petiolaris moderately impressed, densely rugose-punctate, lateral carina indicated by some rugae. Hind coxa densely punctate, without scopa. Hind femur stout, 3.1× longer than wide, with dense punctures. 3 rd mid tarsomere 1.3× longer than wide.

Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 2× their width; vein 2m-cu distad its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 2× its width.

Lateral field of postpetiolus 0.6× as wide as median field, punctate; median field slightly elevated, coarsely striate-punctate. Gastrocoelus strongly impressed. Thyridium oblique, 0.7× as wide as the interval. 2 nd tergite 1.2× wider than long. 2 nd and 3 rd tergites densely rugose-punctate, strongly striate medially. 7 th tergite 1.2× wider than long. Seen from dorsal, ovipositor sheath 0.2× as long as 7 th tergite.

Color: Black. Stripes on flagellomeres 7/8‒12 and stripe on frontal orbit confluent with wider vertical stripe yellow. Legs black; fore femur apically and fore tibia frontally yellowish; mid and hind tibiae with diffuse subbasal chestnut-red stripes. Wings slightly infuscate; pterostigma brown.

Remark: Uchida (1935) had also mentioned a ♂: body length of 19 mm; 11 th to 15 th flagellomeres, scape ventrally, side of clypeus and facial orbit, labrum and palps ivory. Fore and mid tibiae frontally and fore and mid tarsi yellowish. Hind tibia blackish apico-externally. We have not seen this material.

Distribution: Japan (Honshu and Shikoku) and Korea (Uchida 1935).
