Haemaphysalis renschi Schulze 1933

Description

136. Haemaphysalis renschi Schulze, 1933a.

An Australasian and Oriental species, all of whose parasitic stages have been found on Artiodactyla: Bovidae and Cervidae, and Perissodactyla: Equidae; adults alone have been col-lected from Artiodactyla: Suidae, and Carnivora: Canidae; immature stages have been recovered from Rodentia: Muridae, and Charadriiformes: Laridae. There are no records of Haemaphysalis renschi causing human parasitism.

Note: Haemaphysalis renschi was treated as a synonym of Haemaphysalis bispinosa in Anastos (1950) but reinstated as a valid species by Hoogstraal and Anastos (1968). Camicas et al. (1998) list Haemaphysalis renschi as an Oriental species, but it has also been found in the Australasian Region by Durden et al. (2008).
