Fig. 2. Males of Enneapterygius phoenicosoma n. sp. from Ichiki-kushikino, Kagoshima, Japan. A, KAUM–I. 40972, paratype, 31.0 mm SL; B, KAUM–I. 40973, paratype, 31.7 mm SL. In each case, the preserved specimen and the underwater photograph represent the same individual. Underwater photographs taken at depths of 0.1–0.5 m show the normal coloration of males, and the coloration changes to the nuptial coloration immediately after death.
