Description

Desmophyllum dianthus (Esper, 1794)

Material examined: BBB 2016: St. 18; St. 21. PD BB 2017: St. 10 (MACN-In: 41686, 41687, 41688, 41689, 41690).

Distribution: Cosmopolitan. In the southern hemisphere it was recorded in Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Drake Passage and off South Georgias Islands (Cairns 1990), Atlantic Ocean reaching 42º S in deep waters (Cairns & Polonio 2013; Schejter et al. 2015).

Remarks: Associations with other organisms are described in Schejter & Bremec (2019) and also, these authors

recorded the species for the first time at MPA Namuncurá II.
