Seed Morphology in Key Spanish Grapevine Cultivars

Images used for the calculations of J index in Vitis cultivars with different models.

J index is the percent similarity between a seed and a given model. The models used (10) are: Airén, Albillo Real, De Cuerno, Doña Blanca, Hebén, Listán Prieto, Moscatel, Sylvestris, Teta de Vaca and Tortozón.

A total of 38 cultivars were tested, each with its respective model. For the calculation of J index two images are stored for each cultivar. In one of them the figure of the model is superimposed in white, and in the other the figure of the model is superimposed in black. The program ImageJ is used to calculate area values. The image with the model superimposed in white gives the value of shared area between the seed and the model, while the image with the model superimposed in black gives the value of total area.

J index is the ratio between shared and total area x 100.
