Type species: Epilachna eckloni Mulsant, 1850
Cleta Mulsant, 1850: 866 [as subgenus Epilachna (Cleta)] (nec Cleta Duponchel, 1845, Lepidoptera: Geometridae). Type species: Epilachna eckloni Mulsant, 1850 (by subsequent designation by Jadwiszczak & Węgrzynowicz 2003: 9). As genus Cleta Mulsant, 1850 in Tomaszewska & Szawaryn 2016: 74.
Hypsa Mulsant, 1850: 860 [as subgenus Epilachna (Hypsa)]. Type species: Epilachna nigrolimbata J. Thomson, 1875 (by subsequent designation by Korschefsky 1931: 18). Synonymized by Tomaszewska & Szawaryn, 2016: 74.
Chazeauiana Tomaszewska & Szawaryn in Szawaryn et al., 2015: 564. Type species: Epilachna sahlbergi Mulsant, 1850 (by original designation). Synonymized by Tomaszewska & Szawaryn, 2016: 74.
Etymology. The new genus name refers to Afrotropic Realm where this taxon is distributed, and Cleta – subgenus of Epilachna originally described by Mulsant. Gender. feminine.
