Description

Acolasta Swinderen, 1822: 87.

TYPE SPECIES: Musca spinipes Scopoli, 1763, by monotypy.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sepedon Latreille, 1804, n. syn.

FAMILY: SCIOMYZIDAE.

REMARKS: There are no characters given for the genus-group name. However, the only included species (spinipes) is here determined [by the placement of the genus in the list with related genera] to be the same as Musca spinipes Scopoli, 1763, which makes the genus-group name available by including a specific name that can be unambiguously assigned to a nominal species-group taxon (ICZN Code Art. 12.2.5). Musca spinipes Scopoli, 1763 is cur- rently placed in the genus Sepedon Latreille, 1804 [teste Elberg et al. (2009: 58)], which makes Acolasta Swinderen, 1822 a junior synonym of Sepedon Latreille, 1804, n. syn.
