Description

Bradinothrips musae (Hood)

(Figs 53, 121)

This species is considered a pest of bananas, and by feeding on the fruit (Fig. 129) it causes fruit loss and reduced marketability. In countries such as Argentina, where B. musae is presumably absent, there are restrictions to Brazilian shipments of banana if this species is detected. It has been recorded in the States of Piauí, São Paulo and Santa Catarina and recently collected in Rio Branco, Acre State, by the authors (25.vii.2019).
