Summary
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is referred to immunotropic viruses with lifelong persis tence in a host’s body. Infecting immunocompetent cells, EBV can affect molecular regulatory mechanisms in terms of anti-inflammatory response with the formation of allergic inflammatory process. Peculiarities of mir-146а та mir-155 expression have been studied in 46 patients with allergic diseases (AD) in combination with active (27 individ uals, 1st group) and latent (19 individuals, 2nd group) phases of chronic EBV infection. It has been revealed that expression levels of anti-inflammatory miR-146a were reliably higher in patients of the 1st and the 2nd groups, by 2.9 times (р = 8, 0E-04) and by 2.25 times (р = 0.011) compared with EBV-seronegative patients with allergic diseases. The level of miR-155 expression was reliably higher in patients with active phase of EBV-in fection compared with patients with latent phase of EBV (р = 1, 0E-07) and by 1.5 times compared with EBV-seronegative ones (р = 2.5 E-03). Reduction of miR-155 expres sion by 55.8 times was observed in patients with latent EBV infection compared with EBV-seronegative individuals. Thus, chronic EBV infection in patients with allergic diseases differently affects the levels of miR-155 and miR-146a expression depending on the phase of virus persistence, which can potentiate allergic inflammatory process.
Key words: Epstein-Barr virus, miR-155, miR-146, allergic diseases.
