Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 1152.2 (LINN); [icon] in Mattioli, Pl. Epit.: 982. 1586.
Current name: Citrullus colocynthis (L.) Schrad. (Cucurbitaceae).
Note: Numerous authors (e.g. Jeffrey in Meikle, Fl. Cyprus 1: 676. 1977) have incorrectly treated 1152.1 (LINN) as the type. This collection lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “1”) and was a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and is not original material for the name.
