Description
Calligonum polygonoides Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 530. 1753.
"Habitat in monte Ararat." RCN: 3944.
Type not designated.
Original material: Herb. Clifford: 212, Calligonum 1 (BM); [icon] in Tournefort, Rel. Voy. Levant (Paris ed.) 2: 356. 1717.
Generitype of Calligonum Linnaeus.
Current name: Calligonum polygonoides L. (Polygonaceae).
Note: A. number of authors, including Cullen (in Davis, Fl. Turkey 2: 267. 1967) and Bhopal & Chaudhri (in Pakistan Syst. 1(2): 66. 1977) have treated Tournefort material (P-TOURN) as the type but this was not studied by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name.
