  • 1. Department of Botany, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, UK

Description

Juniperus bermudiana Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1039. 1753.

"Habitat in America." RCN: 7502.

Type not designated.

Original material: [icon] in Hermann, Hort. Lugd.-Bat. Cat.: 345, 347. 1687.

Current name: Juniperus bermudiana L. (Cupressaceae).

Note: Adams & al. (in Taxon 36: 443. 1987), because of difficulties in identifying a cited Hermann illustration that is the only original material for the name, designated a neotype (Herb. D. van Royen, No. 901.130-394, L) that maintained the traditional usage of the name. However, with the existence of original material, the designation of a neotype is contrary to Art. 9.11.
