Description

Origanum aegyptiacum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 588. 1753.

"Habitat in Aegypto." RCN: 4287.

Lectotype (Hedge in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 515. 2001): [icon] "Origano cognata Zatarhendi" in Morison, Pl. Hist. Univ. 3: 360, s. 11, t. 3, f. 17. 1699.

Current name: Origanum syriacum L. (Lamiaceae).

Note: Ietswaart (in Leiden Bot. Ser. 4: 145. 1980) regarded the name as of uncertain application. However, Hedge’s typification makes it a synonym of O. syriacum L.
