Description

Ononis cherleri Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1160. 1759.

["Habitat in G. Narbonensi, Hispania, Italia."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1007 (1763). RCN: 5268.

Type not designated.

Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 298.19? (S); Herb. Linn. No. 55 (SBT); Herb. Linn. No. 896.17 (LINN).

Current name: Ononis sp. (Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: The application of this name is uncertain. Devesa & López (in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 55: 251. 1997) indicated Herb. Linn. 896.6 (LINN) as original material for O. pusilla L., and treated O. cherleri (1763: 1007, non 1759) as homotypic with it, and hence illegitimate.
