Description

Festuca phoenicoides Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 12, 2: 96; Mantissa Plantarum: 33. 1767.

"Habitat in Galloprovinciae maritimis arenosis." RCN: 624.

Lectotype (Schippmann & Jarvis in Taxon 37: 160, f. 2. 1988): [icon] " Festuca Spiculis alternis, sub sessilibus, Teretibus, Foliis involutis mucronato-pungentibus" in Gérard, Fl. Gallo-Provincialis: 95, t. 2, f. 2. 1761 (see above, right).

Current name: Brachypodium phoenicoides (L.) Roem. & Schult. (Poaceae).

Note: Although Kerguélen (in Lejeunia, n.s., 75: 95. 1975) stated “Type:...LINN”, this is not accepted as a formal typification, for the reasons explained by Cafferty & al. (in Taxon 49: 240. 2000).
