Creators

  • 1. Carpentries

Description

The Cartpentries is a non-profit, fiscally-sponsored project whose aims are to support training in entry-level software and data skills for researchers, and build community and local capacity for teaching and continued learning of related skills and perspectives. Carpentries communities exist at global, regional, and local levels each with specific aims.

In this presentation, Dr Karen Word talks about the Carpentries' communities of practice - the benefits of involvement to volunteer instructors, to supervisors and to institutions, the motivations behind global participation, the importance of governance and voice, and the sustainability challenges faced by community-based training.
