Description

The “School Otherwise”, promoted in the age of globalization, represents a special form of non-formal education/training. Its general function is to develop students’ capacities for learning/self-instruction in conditions involving cooperation, collaboration, and partnership. The general aim concerns the training/educational development of the student in view of his/her adaptation to the conditions of change, which are typical for the knowledge-based postmodern informational society. The contents promoted within
open organizational structures and the implementation methodology are designed in accordance with the general purpose, developed through specific objectives, which are operationalized within each specific activity. The special theoretical problems, clarified in the process of defining and analyzing the operational pedagogical concept of “School ‘Otherwise’”, concern the type of: a) represented curriculum – non-formal, approached globally, related to the formal curriculum and open to the informal curriculum; b) transversal competences, supported by basic, theoretical knowledge (knowing) – applied (knowing to do) – conditional/attitudinal (knowing to be), which are integrated in a intradisciplinary, interdisciplinary, pluri-/multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary manner.
