Electrostatic precipitators are widely used in industrial environments due to their high collection efficiency (>99%) to keep the amount of particles emitted within their limit. The problem is caused by particles of a few microns or smaller in diameter, when flowing in large volumes, can increase the accumulated space charge so much as to produce coronaquenching.
In some cases, in order to increase the efficiency, steam is returned to the separation space. Increasing the humidity changes several parameters and can also have a major impact on the initial electrostatic and hydrodynamic processes.
In our article, we present the main features of conventional and wet (WESP) electrostatic precipitator. As a continuation of the research, we determined dust properties during laboratory measu rements to give as input data for numerical models.
